Lung cancer imaging: Update for the not-so-new normal 11 Sep 2020

This virtual study day will provide an update within the field of lung cancer imaging, give an insight into all round elements of imaging in lungs and what may be the new norm after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Who should watch: A multidisciplinary audience consisting of radiologists, radiographers, advance practice providers, oncologists and pathologists.

Educational aims:
• To disseminate information on the general principles of lung cancer imaging
• To explore whether current imaging techniques, approaches and interpretation need to be modified

Dr Arjun Nair
Dr Arjun Nair is a Consultant Radiologist at University College London Hospitals.

Dr Rachel Benamore
Rachel Benamore qualified in medicine from Cambridge University. She undertook her radiology training in Leicester and spent a year as a fellow in thoracic radiology in Toronto, Canada.   She has been a consultant thoracic radiologist at the Churchill Hospital, Oxford, since 2006.  She is currently Thoracic Radiology Lead in Oxford and frequently lectures nationally.

Dr Diana Penha
Dr. Diana Penha is a Consultant Radiologist subspecialised in Chest and Cardiac Radiology. Since 2011 Dr. Penha has achieved national and international subspecialised skills in cardiothoracic imaging and intervention in several renowned centers such as thoracic Radiology in Hospital de la Santa Creu, Barcelona, Spain; advanced MRI in Hôpital Erasme, Brussels, Belgium; Interventional Radiology in Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospital, London, UK; Cardiothoracic Radiology CT and MRI in Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, Liverpool, UK and advanced Dual-Energy CT, cardiac CT/MRI in Hôpital Calmette et Coeur, Lille, France. Dr. Penha keeps active participation in national and international congresses where since 2011 she has authored several scientific communications and scientific publications. Dr. Penha is also a reviewer for several peer-reviewed recognised journals. For her work developed in the field of cardio-thoracic and interventional radiology, Dr. Penha obtained four international awards of merit from the Radiology Society North America (RSNA) and European Society of Thoracic Imaging (ESTI).

Dr Manil Subesinghe
Manil Subesinghe is a Clinical Lecturer in PET imaging at King’s College London (KCL), having previously worked as a consultant radionuclide radiologist in Oxford. He trained at Guy’s, King’s & St. Thomas’ (GKT) school of medicine, completing general medical training in Leeds and London, followed by clinical radiology training in West Yorkshire. He developed a subspecialty interest in radionuclide radiology and completed a 1 year PET-CT fellowship in Leeds. His research interests include the role of functional and molecular imaging in cancer. He is a co-author of the 2015 BTS pulmonary nodules guidelines. He has lectured on various aspects of PET-CT in oncology and delivers lectures on the Nuclear Medicine: Science & Practice post-graduate course run by KCL. He is a member of the Clinical Radiology Professional and Learning Development Committee of the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR).

Dr Charlie Sayer
Consultant Radiologist with an interest in thoracic, head & neck and oncological imaging. He completed a 2 year fellowship in cardiothoracic and body imaging in London, UK. During this period he completed academic work in lung cancer surveillance imaging, pulmonary hypertension and interstitial lung disease. Presentations entitled Surveillance and Progression of Lung Cancer: Key concepts and New Directions and Lung Cancer Response Assessment: Beyond RECIST presented at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), in 2014 and 2017 were awarded Magna Cum Laude accolades. He has recently co-authored a book chapters and papers on lung nodule imaging, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, lung cancer screening and pericystic lung cancer. Faculty for thoracic imaging education for the American College of Radiology and RSNA. He teaches as part of the Brighton and Sussex Medical School undergraduate and post-graduate programmes.

Dr Lizzie Barclay
Dr Lizzie Barclay areas of interest are thoracic radiology and medicine, innovation, and improving patient outcomes and healthcare professionals’ wellbeing. After graduating from the University of Leeds School of Medicine (MBChB) and Barts and The London (BSc Sports&Exercise Medicine), Lizzie spent 4 years working as a doctor in Manchester and Liverpool NHS Trusts, including 2 years in Radiology. She has presented her work on lung cancer imaging at national&international conferences and recently contributed to Lung Cancer Europe’s “Early Diagnosis and Screening” event at EU Parliament in Brussels.

Mr Jeroen Van Duffelen
Jeroen is COO and co-founder of Aidence. Jeroen's entrepreneurial spirit led him to teach himself software engineering and starting his own company commercializing an online education platform. He then tried his hand in the US startup ecosystem where he joined a rapidly scaling cloud company. Jeroen returned to Amsterdam where he ran a high-tech incubator for academic research institutes, it is here Jeroen first got his taste for applying AI to healthcare. Why Jeroen is excited about applying AI to the healthcare industry: “There have been many claims about technologies reducing the cost of healthcare. I believe AI is the first one that will actually be able to do this, through automating labor-intensive tasks.” Jeroen's vision Aidence & Veye Chest: “Aidence will develop an AI suite that will fully automate the basic & tedious tasks that radiologists have to perform on a daily basis, allowing them to focus on the most important and difficult tasks.”
