Overview of rheumatological disorders 11 Jun 2019

This talk provides an overview of the rheumatological disorders that rheumatologists diagnose and manage, with focus on the most relevant disorders, namely inflammatory arthritis, axial spondyloarthritis, osteoarthritis, crystal arthritis, vasculitis, connective tissue disease, metabolic bone disease, and some soft tissue rheumatic conditions and rare miscellaneous disorders.
It also gives a basic update on relevant immunology of inflammatory arthritis and give a brief overview of relevant rheumatology diagnostic and classification criteria and validated clinical assessment tools. It outlines relevant national and international rheumatology guidelines on diagnosis and management of these rheumatological disorders, whilst providing insight into what rheumatologists want to know from MSK imaging and why.

Tanya Baqai

Consultant Rheumatologist, Luton and Dunstable University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Dr Tanya Baqai is a Consultant Rheumatologist, who joined the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in January 2016. She has a special interest in psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and axial spondyloarthritis. She previously ran the specialist psoriatic arthritis clinic and was co-lead of the monthly Combined Rheumatology – Dermatology Clinic at the Royal Free NHS Hospital. Dr Baqai is a member of BritPACT (British Psoriatic Arthritis Consortium) and BritSpA (British Society for Spondyloarthritis). She is currently developing the psoriatic arthritis service at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital and runs a weekly early inflammatory arthritis clinic, performing regular MSK ultrasound imaging for diagnostic purposes and to aid clinical management of patients with inflammatory arthritis.
