Paediatric interventional cardiology: what can we do to optimise practice? 30 Jan 2015

The video will discuss research investigating radiation exposures in PIC. It explores the calculation of Local Diagnostic Reference Levels which can be used as a reference by other clinical departments. The results of a questionnaire study investigating PIC protocols currently used across the UK and Ireland are discussed and variations in practice identified. Further discussion on the results of laboratory studies investigating the different protocols and their impact on radiation dose/image quality is given. The video concludes with recommendations for best practice.

Dr Sonyia McFadden

Dr Sonyia McFadden is a registered radiographer and has 20 years clinical experience in general radiography and interventional cardiology. She has 13 years teaching experience in an academic setting. She took up a post as a Lecturer within the University of Ulster in 2001 and successfully completed her PhD in July 2010. Her research explores radiation protection issues and the radiation exposure to children undergoing interventional cardiology procedures. She is currently working as a full time academic on the BSc Radiography programme, within the School of Life and Health Sciences, University of Ulster.
