Benign uterine pathologies and their image guided treatments

Benign uterine disease may be the cause for a number of troubling symptoms in women such as menorrhagia and pelvic pain.
Common benign diseases often found on imaging of the female pelvis include adenomyosis, endometriosis, leiomyomas and endometrial polyps. Characteristic imaging findings are described, with an emphasis on the use of MR.
The role of imaging in the assessment, monitoring and treatment of benign pathologies are explained, including discussion of the roles of myomectomy and uterine artery embolisation (UAE) in the treatment of leiomyomas.
Educational aims:
• To understand the role of imaging in depiction and assessment of benign uterine diseases
• To weigh the advantages and disadvantages of image guided treatment for benign conditions of the uterus, primarily leiomyomas

She is the lead radiologist for gynaecological imaging at St George’s having had a longstanding interest in urogenital imaging, primarily in the modality of MR. She has a number of publications in this field.
