The role of emergency radiologists in the management of polytraumatized patients 08 Nov 2017

The role of radiologists in the emergency department has changed drastically in the past twenty years. Today, in a typical 1 level accident and emergency department, radiologists are consultants working 24/7 with an active role in the emergency team and radiologist have a deep impact on the management decision process. They have to be available to discuss, advise and report the most critical cases in a timely/effective manner, while quickly moving through all the imaging modalities. In this lecture, the role of radiologists in the emergency setting will be illustrated, showing how their role is significantly greater than simply writing a remote report. Finally, many examples in which subtle injuries, i.e. vascular injuries, need to be detected in a very timely manner will be illustrated.
