Professor Mariano Scaglione
Dr. Mariano Scaglione is Head of the Radiology Department at Pineta Grande Hospital, a private teaching hospital, at Castel Volturno since 2008. He trained in Napoli – at the Cardarelli University Hospital, the largest hospital (more than 120.000 admission/year) in the south of Italy in which he was Section Chief of Emergency/Trauma CT (2002-2008). He also works as a Consultant Radiologist in NHS Hospitals in the UK since 2013.
Dr. Scaglione is an invited speaker with more than 100 presentations in international meetings (RSNA, ASER, ESER, BSER, ESR, ESOR, ESGAR, JSR, SRIM, SIRM). He published more than 120 papers. He also edited 11 books and was the primary author for 32 book chapters. Particularly, he was appointed as the Lead Editor for an Emergency Radiology Trilogy books by Springer-Verlag Medical Imaging (Emergency Radiology of the Abdomen 2012, Emergency Radiology of the Chest and Cardio-Vascular System 2016 and Emergency Radiology of the Head and Spine 2019). He was also the Guest Editor of 4 themed Emergency Radiology issues in various radiology journals (Eur J Radiol 2006 and 2008, Radiol Med 2015 and BJR 2016). His article “Role of contrast-enhanced helical CT in the evaluation of acute thoracic aortic injuries” is one of the most cited articles in the Eur Radiol Journal in the last 25 years. He is an Editorial Board Member in many Radiology journals. In particular for “Emergency Radiology” the official journal of the American Society of Emergency Radiology since 2005.
Dr. Scaglione was the Chairman for the Emergency Radiology Subcommittee at ECR 2012, President of the Italian College of Emergency Radiology SIRM (2010-2012, 2012-2014), core-group Founding Member, 1st Vice-President and 2nd President of the European Society of Emergency Radiology (ESER). He is currently a member of the Emergency Radiology subcommittee of the Scientific Program for RSNA since 2012.
He received the qualification of “Full Professor of Radiology” by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research in 2017.
He was awarded the “Gold Medal” for ESER 2014.
